How Kahua Empowers Federal Civilian and Defense Customers

Maneuvering through layers of requirements and guidelines of federal construction projects can feel like traversing a labyrinth. From security concerns to compliance intricacies, the journey towards successful project outcomes is fraught with challenges. However, Kahua emerges as a beacon of efficiency and reliability in this complex landscape.

DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE

Kahua is providing its project management solution to numerous defense agencies that plan and execute military projects around the world. Whether the construction’s mission is to amplify security to thwart foes or to provide disaster relief to friends, Kahua’s government-oriented solution is helping coordinate efforts between military branches and contractors while meeting security protocols.

For defense projects, there are higher risk levels, ranging from unique requirements to meet the mission and geopolitical instability, creating the need for robust risk management strategies.

A major area of concern in today’s digital environment is cybersecurity. Agencies and project teams now must meet a much higher level of scrutiny, and the need for heightened security measures can be daunting. Strict compliance with military regulations and standards adds complexity and risk for agencies and their vendor community.

Because of these concerns, DoD construction requires the most secure, collaborative project management information system (PMIS) on the market that protects data and enables collaboration, ease of use, efficiencies and reporting to mitigate risk and deliver on budget and on time.

For DoD entities, the standards for PMIS and contract document management systems are FedRAMP Authorization and the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC).

Kahua holds FedRAMP Moderate Authorization and has completed the Authority to Operate (ATO) process with multiple federal agencies, which shortens the individual ATO process for government agencies. In addition to being FedRAMP Authorized, the DoD’s use of Kahua’s security controls allows DoD IL-2 information to be hosted in the Kahua Government Network.

CMMC is a core element of the DoD’s information security requirements for its partners in the defense industrial base. Its purpose is to ensure the safeguarding of sensitive unclassified information shared between the DoD and its contractors and subcontractors, and Kahua can assist in meeting these requirements.

FEDERAL CIVILIAN AGENCIES

The General Services Administration (GSA), a cornerstone of federal procurement, sought a modern project management information system (PMIS) to replace its outdated infrastructure. Kahua emerged as the solution of choice, empowered by its FedRAMP Authorization – a testament to its unwavering commitment to security and compliance.

By embracing Kahua, GSA streamlined its procurement process, eliminating the need for exhaustive vendor vetting. The result? Over 25,000 users across 14 federal agencies now leverage Kahua's platform, catalyzing productivity and collaboration on thousands of projects.

Kahua's adaptability was highlighted in the creation of a Sustainability App, enabling GSA to track and enhance its sustainability efforts across construction projects nationwide. With Kahua, GSA not only met its immediate project management needs but also kicked off a journey towards environmental stewardship and compliance.

When the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs faced the inadequacies of its legacy PMIS, Kahua stepped in as a transformative force. Its seamless migration of a decade's worth of data instilled confidence in VA leadership, paving the way for enhanced collaboration, efficiency and security.

Notably, Kahua's Document Management suite emerged as a game-changer for the VA, offering robust capabilities tailored to its unique requirements. With Kahua, the VA's major projects – valued at $30 million or more – are now vested with comprehensive document management, RFIs, daily reporting and more.

Also, Kahua has become the PMIS of choice for some of the country’s most important financial entities that manage U.S. monetary policy, regulate banks and monitor systemic risk in the financial system.

Two premier government research facilities – which are part of a cabinet-level agency – selected Kahua in 2023 when it became mandated that only a FedRAMP Authorized PMIS could be used.

In addition to the security upgrade, one of the labs was in search of a construction planning and management tool that offered cost management, design management and portfolio management systems. The science center was looking for additional insight into its projects that its former PMIS could not provide.

The department of another cabinet-level agency that oversees the construction, management and operations of certain U.S. government buildings abroad, is utilizing Kahua on his projects. It encompasses a $70+ billion portfolio of structures in more than 250 locations across the globe.

These structures are held to the highest security standards, so selecting a PMIS that could provide a FedRAMP Authorized solution to support project management and collaboration requirements was essential.
