Technology Essential for Infrastructure Act Projects

When many people envision the management of major infrastructure construction projects, they don’t “see” beyond giant backhoes, towering cranes and workers in hard hats.

But before any of those necessary components arrive on the most state-of-the-art job site, an unseeable digital force should be on the scene: a modern infrastructure construction solution.

Digital transformation must be at the root of all the upcoming massive programs and projects related to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), which, after all, aims to update and create the century’s most essential transportation, water and energy projects. This certainly falls under the “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right” idiom.

When it comes down to spending $1.2 trillion of taxpayer money, doing it right means utilizing a project management information system to ensure true collaboration from stakeholders, leverage data intelligence across the project, manage funding sources and improve project performance.

Construction Dive, a news site dedicated to the construction industry, recently posted a story that caught my eye, “Technology Will be Key for Contractors on IIJA Jobs, Say Experts.” It says that the industry’s “well-used pencils are far too dull to keep up with the barrage of projects about to come its way.”

I agree. Technology is a must, but not just technology for technology’s sake. The expedient solution is the one that’s flexible to conform to project requirements today and can adapt to unknown demands in the future, such as Kahua. And when you add in that the Kahua Federal Network is one of the few construction management solutions that is FedRAMP ready, an extra level of security is gained.

Those are the things that will “see” us into doing it right.
